ISLAND PLAYERS NAMED TO TEAM ATLANTIC
FOR WORLD UNDER 17 HOCKEY CHALLENGE

 
 
Saint John, NB - Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre, in conjunction with the four Atlantic Hockey Branches is proud to announce, the players who will make up the 2011 edition of the Under 17 Male Team Atlantic.

Team Atlantic is comprised of players from each of the four Atlantic Provinces and will represent Atlantic Canada at the 2011 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, December 29th- January 4th, in Winnipeg/Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

“Our coaching staff had to make some very difficult decisions, but we are confident that the twenty-two players that have been named to the team today will be great ambassadors on and off the ice for Atlantic Canada and I am sure that they will represent the Atlantic region with great pride”, stated Nic Jansen, General Manager for Team Atlantic.

"Our group that will represent our region of the country will have their first opportunity to put on the sweater bearing the Maple Leaf crest, a dream of most young Canadians." commented Greg Leland, Head Coach for Team Atlantic Under 17. Team Atlantic will depart for Winnipeg on December 26th. They will play an exhibition game on December 28th against Czech Republic prior to playing their first tournament game against Quebec on December 29th. Team Atlantic will also face off against Finland, the United States and Germany in the round robin portion of the event.

"These twenty-two fortunate young athletes will be able to participate against the top players of their age category from the rest of the world, a truly unique experience. With this privilege, comes responsibility" added Leland.

“We will continue the tradition of Team Atlantic in terms of competing with the highest possible energy, passion, discipline and integrity. We are well aware of the challenge that lies ahead, and will approach our competition from a united front which ensures success, regardless of the outcome", Leland further commented.
