Charlottetown - Hockey PEI along with Hockey Canada has been provided the opportunity of sending one female defenseman to Vierumaki Finland, for a one week International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Youth Development Hockey Camp.
The camp will run from July 3-11, 2010 and will feature elite on and off ice training sessions. Players, coaches and officials from 42 nations across the world will take part. This unique opportunity is open to all female defenseman born in 1994 from across Prince Edward Island.
Hockey PEI will select one female player who plays the defense position, and possesses excellent social skills and attitude both on and off the ice. The chosen player must be willing to maintain a diary and complete a post event report.
This is the fourth opportunity in recent years that Hockey PEI has had the opportunity to send a representative to this IIHF camp. This is the second time a female will represent Hockey PEI.
The IIHF Youth Hockey Development Camp is a once in a lifetime opportunity says Gordie Whitlock, President of Hockey PEI. “This camp is a cultural experience as much as it is a hockey experience. The selected player will be given a chance to travel abroad to play the game she loves in an international atmosphere. This will not only expose the player to international competition but will also give her a chance to interact and learn from people all over the world.”
Interested players can go to the Hockey PEI website at www.hockeypei.com to download a player application form and information sheet. Applicants are required to submit a “one page” essay and provide two letters of reference. The application deadline is Friday, April 30th at 5 pm.
