PEI SLEDGE HOCKEY TEAM RAISING FUNDS AND AWARENESS

PEI's Ice Breakers sledge hockey team, a program of ParaSport and Recreation PEI, will be holding a fundraiser sledge hockey game on Saturday, December 3rd at 7 pm at the Gateway Arena in Borden-Carleton. The Island team will face off against the teachers from Amherst Cove Consolidated School.

Ice Breakers Charity Game

Sledge hockey is a high energy, fast paced team sport for individuals with a physical disability played all over the world. It is currently the most popular Paralympic sport. It is played by using the same rules as regular ice hockey but individuals play seated in a specially designed sled.

Admission to the fundraiser sledge hockey game is by donation. All proceeds from this event will be used to support the team to attend their first sledge hockey tournament in London, Ontario in January 2012. The Ice Breakers Team manager, Eric Payne, hopes the event will not only raise much needed dollars but will create awareness about sport for individuals with a disability. "I hope the community will come out to support the local team and learn a bit about our sport at this family friendly event!".

ParaSport and Recreation PEI provides sporting opportunities for Islanders with a physical disability. For more information about the event or the sledge hockey program, please contact the ParaSport and Recreation PEI office at 368-4540 or visit the web at www.parasportpei.ca.
