ISLAND PLAYERS NAMED TO TEAM ATLANTIC
FOR WORLD UNDER 17 HOCKEY CHALLENGE

 
 
Saint John, NB - Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre, in conjunction with the four Atlantic Hockey Branches is proud to announce, the players who will make up the 2010 edition of the Under 17 Male Team Atlantic.

Team Atlantic is comprised of players from each of the four Atlantic Provinces and will represent Atlantic Canada at the 2010 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, December 29th- January 4th, in Timmins, Ontario.

“We are extremely excited to name Team Atlantic for the 2010 World Under 17 Challenge,” stated Dave Curnew, General Manager for Team Atlantic. “Our coaching staff had to make some very difficult decision, but we are confident that the twenty-two players that have been named to the team today will be great ambassadors on and off the ice for Atlantic Canada and I am sure that they will represent the Atlantic region with great pride.”

Team Atlantic Under 17 Male team will be comprised of six players from Nova Scotia, nine players from New Brunswick, three players from Newfoundland and Labrador and four players from Prince Edward Island.

"This is a very exciting day for our region, for our coaching staff and the 22 players named to Team Atlantic." commented Jim Midgley, Head Coach for Team Atlantic Under 17. "It’s been a long evaluation process leading to tough decisions which highlights the depth of talent in our region this year."

Team Atlantic will depart for Timmins on December 26th. It will play an exhibition game on December 28th against Finland prior to playing their first tournament game against the United States on December 29th in Timmins. Team Atlantic will also face off against Team Pacific, Czech Republic and Russia in the round robin portion of the event.

"This event always requires everyone to be at their best and we are excited to take these 22 guys to that stage", added Midgley. "We will count on all 22 players pulling in the right direction in order for the team to achieve success." Midgley further commented “The only thing an event like this guarantees us is an opportunity; it will be up to us to take full advantage of that opportunity and create a positive experience that will last a life time."
