ALIANT ATLANTIC PEE WEE CHAMPIONSHIPS COMING TO POWNAL

Pownal, PEI - The organizing committee for the 2008 Aliant Atlantic Pee Wee AAA Hockey Championship is pleased to announce that plans for the event are well underway. The event which will run March 27-30th at the Pownal Sports Centre and will feature the host Pownal MacAulay’s Bakery Red Devils and the provincial champions from each of the four Atlantic Provinces.
Tournament Packages are available from members of the Host Committee for $15 which includes all 10 round Robin Games, as well as Bronze and Gold Medal games. Game passes will be sold at the door for $5.
In conjunction with the event, the tournament will be hosting a "Pee Wee Stars of the Future" Clinic, on Saturday March 29th. Craig Jenkins of Stratford will host a group of Novice and Atom aged players in a 1.5 hour session for each group. The first 24 players in each Novice and Atom group will be accepted. The cost will be $20 and will include a free ticket to the host Pownal’s game that day. To register please contact Lowell Parkman, Tournament Organizing Committee at lparkman@islandtelecom.com.
"We are quite excited to be hosting an event of this importance in Pownal and we hope this will be a memorable event for all those who participate and attend" stated Mark Derry, Tournament Chair. "The caliber of hockey should be second to none, when you consider players like Michael Ryder, Luc Bourdon, Sidney Crosby and Brad Richards to name a few, have all represented their provinces at Atlantic Championships in the past", commented Mr. Derry.
To help kick off the promotion of the event Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre has donated a Team Canada World Jr. Gold Medal Jersey, signed by the entire team. The Pownal MacAulay’s Bakery Pee Wee AAA Red Devils will be selling tickets on this jersey at their remaining home games with the winning ticket being drawn at the Awards Banquet to be held at the Delta on March 29 in conjunction with the Aliant Atlantics Pee Wee AAA Tournament.
