SAMANTHA MACISAAC SELECTED TO REPRESENT CANADA

 
 
CHARLOTTETOWN - Hockey PEI is proud to announce that Samantha MacIsaac of Charlottetown has been chosen to represent Hockey PEI and Hockey Canada at the 20 International Ice Hockey Federation Youth Development Camp in Vierumaki, Finland July 3 to 11th.

Only three Canadian players will represent Canada at the camp. Coaches, players and officials from 42 different nations across the world will take part.

Selected by a committee representing the Hockey PEI Development Council, Samantha MacIsaac excels both on and off the ice. This past season Samantha was a member of the Capital District Midget ‘AA’ Girls team.

MacIsaac has been a member of the Hockey PEI Program of Excellence for the past four years and was a member of the 2008 Under 15 team that captured a gold medal at the Atlantic Challenge Cup. The first time that a female team has captured a gold medal at this event.

Each applicant was required to submit a one page essay entitled, “Why I deserve the right to represent Hockey PEI and Hockey Canada at the IIHF Youth Hockey Development Camp?” In addition, each application required two letters of reference.

The selection is based on both on-ice and off-ice criteria. MacIsaac who is a currently in Grade 10 at Colonel Gray High School, spends much of her extra time volunteering at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and working with Free the Children Charity. She also spends time playing soccer and rugby.

“Selecting one representative for the branch was a difficult task as we had several great candidates for the honor”, says Nancy MacMillan, Chair of the Hockey PEI Development Council. “The committee is certain that Samantha will be a great representative for PEI in Finland”.
