Saint John, NB - Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre , in conjunction with the four Atlantic Hockey Branches proudly announced on Friday, the players who will make up the 2008 edition of the Under 18 Female Team Atlantic.

Team Atlantic is comprised of players from each of the four Atlantic Provinces and will represent Atlantic Canada at the 2008 National Under 18 Hockey Championship, November 5-9, in Napanee, Ontario.

“We are extremely excited to name Team Atlantic for the 2008 National Women's Under 18 Championship ,” stated Trevor Murphy, General Manager for Team Atlantic. “The twenty players that have been named to the team today will be great ambassadors on and off the ice for Atlantic Canada and I am sure that they will wear the Atlantic Jersey with great pride.”

Team Atlantic Under 18 Female will be comprised of eight players from Nova Scotia, six players from New Brunswick, three players from Newfoundland and Labrador and three players from Prince Edward Island.

“We had 160 female players attend the Atlantic Challenge Cup last week in Moncton, New Brunswick and we knew at that time, that we had the makings of a great hockey team,” commented Carl Watters, Head Coach for Team Atlantic Under 18. “When you have 160 players competing to be a part of Team Atlantic, it makes everyone step their game up to the next level. It was not an easy decision to name the twenty players that will make up Team Atlantic, but the staff is confident that we have named twenty players that will allow our team to be successful."

Selected PEI players are Carrie Bernard (Hunter River), Keistin Visser (Crapaud) and Emily van Diepen (Morell).

Team Atlantic will travel to Napanee on November 3rd. Upon arrival, Team Atlantic will have a two day pre-competition camp prior to playing their first tournament game against Saskatchewan at the Strathcona Paper Centre on November 5th. Team Atlantic will also face off against Ontario Blue and Ontario Red in the round robin portion of the event.

“The National Under 18 Women's Hockey Championship will be a great test for our team and we are sure that our players will rise to the Challenge and take their game to the next level,” added Watters. “Our staff and players have been training and preparing hard for this event and we will ensure that we are ready when the puck drops at Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee."
