U17M & U18F SPRING MINICAMP ANNOUNCED

Charlottetown – Hockey PEI is hosting a Male U17 and Female U18 minicamp May 29-30 at the MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown. The camp will help identify the top 15 players in each group who will represent Hockey PEI at the Hockey Canada Atlantic Camps. The Atlantic U18 female camp will be held July 13-17th and the Atlantic U17 male camp July 20-24th. Both camps will be held on the Acadia University grounds in Wolfville, NS. Each participant at the minicamp will have one practice and two games to showcase their talent. The cost of the provincial camp is $50. The first 4 goalies, 12 defence and 24 forwards per group will be accepted into the camp. Registration will be taken on a first come first serve basis. Underage players will be accepted but priority will be given to players born in the appropriate year for each group. Registration deadline is Friday, May 15th.

The Male U17 Team Atlantic is comprised of players from each of the four Atlantic Provinces and will represent Atlantic Canada at the 2010 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, December 28th to January 4th, in Timmons, Ont. Last year, Hockey PEI was represented by Brandon Gormley from Murray River, Morgan Ellis of East Bideford, Spencer MacDonald of Stratford, Josh Currie of Charlottetown and Brent Andrews of Hunter River.

The Female U18 Team Atlantic is comprised of players from each of the four Atlantic Provinces and will represent Atlantic Canada at the 2009 Women’s National U18 Championships, November 4-8th, in Surrey, BC. Last year, Hockey PEI was represented by Keirstin Visser of Crapaud, Carrie Bernard of Hunter River and Emily Vandiepen of Morell.

The Under 17M and U18F programs are a cornerstone for Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. It is the first time that players in our country get to put on the Canadian jersey and compete against international teams. The invaluable experience gained by these young men and women will help them as many will go on to represent Canada in many different international tournaments.

Player Testimonial

"Four years ago I watched the Canada Games team on TV. Being a young hockey player I knew I wanted to play at that level some day. I started to work towards my goal that year. The program of Excellence was a great yearly measurement of my success.
It was such a thrill to reach my goal and go to the Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse. Thanks to Hockey PEI and all the volunteers.
I had the experience of a lifetime."
