CHARLOTTETOWN, PE - Welcome to the 2025-2026 season! Hockey excitement is in the air! As we begin a new season, we share some updates and reminders to our members.

U9 SEASON STRUCTURE (MINOR & FEMALE HOCKEY)

Minor Council, Female Council and the Board of Directors have approved the seasonal structure of U9 hockey to align with Option 2 of the Hockey Canada U9 models. This change will split the season between the half-ice model and use of full ice. The first half of the season operates within the half-ice model for learning and development and starting January 15th, teams will transition to full ice for the remainder of the season. We believe this model provides a balanced approach to learning for our members in this 7 and 8 year old category. The U9 Policy will be shared with teams at upcoming league meetings providing further info on structure and playing rules. General U9 model information can be found here on Hockey Canada’s website: Under-9 Hockey | Seasonal Structure & Annual Calendar

U18 MINOR - CHANGES TO CATEGORIES OF PLAY

Minor Council and the Board of Directors approved a change to the categories of play at the U18 age group. This change removes the reference to the ‘AAA” category to be redefined as per the chart below. The change is being implemented to better align with the categories of play used across the Atlantic region. This will help to eliminate category confusion when travelling and open the door more off-island tournament opportunities for U18 teams in our region. The structure and operation of leagues will remain the same with only the category reference changed.
