by Hockey PEI Communications // @HockeyPEI // Sunday, January 21, 2024

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE - Hockey PEI's Officiating Committee was busy over the weekend hosting 50 Officials in Charlottetown for a Regional Member High Performance Camp. The Camp seen 28 officials from Prince Edward Island attend and a total of 10 females in attendance as well.

"It was a great weekend of officiating development said Steven Green, Manager of Officiating for Hockey PEI. I want to thank our Officiating Coaches (Dave Crane HNL, Ed Flood HNL, Rick Hill HNS, and Vernon Doyle, HPEI), our Guest Speakers and Participants for successful camp. Our continued focus on regional partnerships like this allow our officials to be exposed to more tactics in order to further their development as an official and aim to reach the next steps in their career."

The Member High Performance Camp (MHP) (Formerly known as Level 4 / 5) is for officials who are in the top tier within the Member-administered portion of the Hockey Canada Officiating Pathway. Entrance into this level is by invitation from the Member officiating development program and is reserved for officials who have successfully moved through the development levels of the pathway and are ready to move into the elite levels of High Performance play. The camp consists of:

  • Classroom instruction including guest speakers from various areas of the game

  • Workgroup study and development sessions

  • On-ice skating assessment

  • Off-ice fitness assessment

  • Written officiating exam

"This has been a long time coming for Officials here at home and from the region with COVID-19 preventing this level of development and education from being offered over the past several seasons. I think the group was extremely pleased with the level of learning both on and off the ice this weekend and will take away many good habits from their experience and apply them to their game." - Director, Officiating Development, Tanner Doiron

To achieve this level of Officiating Education, the officials must successfully:

  • Attend a Member High Performance certification camp.

  • Achieve a minimum score of 85% on the written exam.

  • Achieve the required skating and fitness assessments.

  • Complete an in-game evaluation by a Member officiating coach/supervisor.

Hockey PEI would like to thank its partner, Rodd Hotels and Resorts for its accommodations over the weekend.
