Hockey Canada’s Officials Program of Excellence is hosting its eastern regional male camp in Sherbrooke, QC this weekend. Hockey PEI will see two of its male officials take part. Blake Vandervelden (Summerside, PE) and Morgan Darbyson (Crapaud, PE) were amongst those selected for the event.

Vandervelden will attend the OPOE as a Referee and Darbyson as a linesperson.

The camp introduces officials to the first piece of Hockey Canada’s OPOE. It will include a weekend of testing both on and off the ice, classroom development and officials will also have the opportunity to work local hockey and be coached by members of Hockey Canada’s Officiating leaders. .

Most recently, four Hockey PEI female officials attended the Hockey Canada eastern regional female camp in Moncton, NB and one male official attended the National High Performance Program in Calgary.

“This is an exciting time for our officiating program with many of our members getting the opportunity to showcase their abilities on the regional and national level. We look forward to having Blake and Morgan attend this event, learning more about the OPOE, and furthering their development.” – Hockey PEI Manager of Officiating, Steven Green.

Hockey PEI wishes Blake and Morgan the best of luck with this opportunity!
